If your garbage disposal is smoking, you may have an overheated motor or a burnt out disposal system. This can often be caused by a clogged in the garbage disposal, but it might also mean that your garbage disposal is finished.

If your garbage disposal is smoking, don’t use it! You must fix the issue or call a professional.

If your garbage disposal won’t turn on at all, you may need a garbage disposal replacement. However, our technician may be able to find an inexpensive solution to the garbage disposal not working.

If your garbage disposal won’t drain, you may not have a broken garbage disposal, but simply an abundance of waste matter in the disposal unit and drain.

Unpleasant odors coming from the garbage disposal is often caused by food waste that hasn’t washed down the drains.

Alex was extremely helpful and arrived before the quoted time window. He even took the time to answer questions about another issue. Thank you!

Garbage Disposal Repair

The timing was good for both of my service calls and I did not have to wait long.

The plumber did an excellent job with fixing my leaky bathroom sink and installing a new waste disposal with an assistant a few days later. Billy is a great guy – very courteous and knowledgeable. I was very impressed with how he figured out the issues and his performance. My cats really liked him too! I was very satisfied and would recommend Billy and Garett and the company to everyone.

Garbage Disposal Repair

Bill was fantastic, he called to let me know when he would be coming and performed the required work quickly and professionally. I also appreciated his advice on what further information I would require to furnish him in order to better quote the bathroom work rather then just making a rough estimate on the spot. Highly recommend.

Garbage Disposal FAQ’s

Fixing a garbage disposal unit can be more cost-effective than replacing it, but it depends on the situation.

It all depends on the scenario. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to answer this question.

Due to the increased likelihood of a blockage in the garbage disposal, drain, or sewer, or the environmental issues, it’s recommended that you avoid using the garbage disposal for these things:

  • Grease and fats
  • Coffee grounds
  • Bones
  • Oatmeal
  • Onion peals
  • Potato peals
  • Egg shells
  • Garbage
  • Any fibrous vegetables
  • Fruit pits
  • Chemicals and paint
  • Corn husks
  • Pasta
  • Animal shells
  • Broken glass
  • Produce stickers
  • Medication

A garbage disposal is intended to grind up food waste into smaller bits that can be flushed into the sewer system or septic tank.

Regularly cleaning your garbage disposal with baking soda and vinegar is a great way to prevent drain issues and foul smells.

Pour between 1/4 and 1/2 cup of baking soda into the drain, followed by a similar amount of white vinegar. Let it fizzle for a while!

Later on, plug the sink and fill it with hot water. Pour some more baking soda into this water, then pull the plug.

Once the plug is pulled and the water is draining, turn on the garbage disposal machine. This should wash any food particles that are stuck inside the machine and helps keep your drains clean, too!

If you get a good garbage disposal unit and you use it as recommended by the manufacturer, then you can expect to get about 10-15 years out of your garbage disposal.

When it comes to garbage disposal repairs in Ottawa, it’s recommended that you trust a professional plumber.

If a garbage disposal leaks or any other plumbing problems, you’re going to have a big and expensive mess to clean.

A garbage disposal unit might surprise you!

There’s no spinning blade inside the garbage disposal that will cut your hand off. Instead, there is a spinning surface called an impeller that moves food waste into fixed blades at a high speed. As the spinning surface spins, the food waste is torn to shreds and goes down into your drain where it washes into your sewer or septic system.
