Plumbing and Your Pool Heater
Hello Kingston! The 2020 Winter Season has been delightfully mild across the 1000 Islands (this far anyways!), and as a result homeowners everywhere are already thinking about booking their pools to be reopened or taking the steps required to have a new pool installed. There are many factors to consider when installing a pool and keeping it running properly. A pool heater is one of those factors that needs to be taken into account. John THE Plumber holds a gas license and is equipped with a team of professional technicians. As many pools have heaters are gas operated, we thought we’d share some knowledge with you about gas pool heaters and factors you should consider in your decision making process.
Pool Heater Installation
When having a pool installed, your sales rep will go over many details with you to develop the best pool design for your property. The installation of a pool heater should realistically occur concurrently with the rest of the pool construction. Regardless of which heating option you choose (gas or other), this is a matter to take up with your sales rep sooner than later. Something else to consider is your cement pad. You need to have a level concrete pad poured for the heater to permanently sit on.
Gas Heaters do range in price, basically that comes down to the size you choose as well the brand. If you are a household that will want your pool to heat up quickly, gas heaters are the fastest. Another notable thing about gas heaters especially around these Kingston parts is they are not dependent on sun exposure or the temperature outside – your hot tub/spa will still quickly heat up during frigid, grey sky weather.
Safety First
If you know Our Company at all, you know we believe in safety first and we are pleased to share any safety tips that we can. We cannot stress enough the importance of having a professional plumber or gas fitter come and install your gas heater. Between the gas plumbing, PVC plumbing, and electrical wiring there is lots of room for dangerous errors to be made if the work is not done properly. When you install a gas heater you also need to run a gas line, and often HVAC venting as a carbon monoxide safety measure is also required should the heater be in an enclosed space. Please do not attempt any of this on your own – call a professional!
Solar Blankets: Myth or Fact?
Many wonder if a solar blanket is truly a necessary expense and we are here to tell you YES you do need to invest in a solar blanket when you use any kind of a pool heater (gas or otherwise). The surface area of any pool is where the heat loss occurs. A solar blanket plays a huge roll in insulating and conserving your heat. Without it your heater will work harder, costing you more money – and you’ll be cold! We promise it’s a fact Kingston – get a solar blanket.
