Our Kingston plumbers offer their opinions on gurgling sounds.
We’ve all heard them from our plumbing from one time to another. But what is it? Is it something to worry about? What does it mean? Our plumbers from Kingston Ontario offer this information.
Gurgling pipes are typically caused by improper venting, or a blockage in your venting. Basically, a plumbing vent allows airflow through the piping system to help facilitate drainage. Think of a straw in your McDonalds Coke. If you put your thumb over that straw, then life your straw out of the coke, you will see that the coke stays inside the straw. As soon as you remove your thumb though, the coke drains out of the straw. This is because you’ve vented the straw by taking your thumb off. In a plumbing system if you have a blocked vent, it’s a lot like the straw. Your sewage will have a difficult time draining if there is a blockage. The gurgling sound is typically caused by a vent being mostly blocked, yet still allowing a little bit of air to pass through. It’s that air passing through that you’re hearing.
The Problem with Gurgling Noises
Gurgling noises tell you that your drains aren’t operating the way that they are supposed to. A gurgling drain means that your drainage system is draining slower than it should, and this will eventually lead to sewer back-ups and blocked drains in your home as debris will build up over time in your drainage system.
