Since both gas and venting are involved with the installation of a gas fireplace, it is strongly advised that you hire a licensed and insured gas technician for your gas fireplace installation.
Venting is required in order to release the exhaust outside. A vent can be cut directly into a wall or a chimney can be used.
That being said, ventless gas fireplaces do exist. But, they are not legal to own in Canada due to the risks involved with gas combustion indoors without an exhaust.
To clean a gas fireplace, you must shut off the fireplace and allow it to cool. Different models open differently, so check with your instruction manual how to safely open the fireplace. Apply a gas fireplace glass cleaner to a cloth and buff the soot off the panels.
Do not use an Ammonia based glass cleaner like Windex.
