Today at John the Plumber Ottawa was a fun one. Basement rough ins are always satisfying work and today was no different. Josh installed a partial basement rough in. We were hired to install the drain lines for this basement; the water lines were installed at a separate time.
All the concrete had to be dug up to trench out space for the new lines in the floor. Precise measuring of the dimensions of all the fixtures is key in these situations – margins for error when it comes to plumbing are pretty small. Josh carefully measured the shower, toilet, vanity unit and floor drain and proceeded to do the ABS drainage pipe into its correct positions. As you can see, the path is definitely not straight, Lots of turns and “y” and “t” sections put in to accommodate all the necessary fixtures, as the toilet, shower and vanity all have to tie neatly into it.
Josh, as well as the licensed plumbers here at John the Plumber, always thoroughly test their work prior to backfilling and cementing. Each section of drain pipe gets tested for leaks to ensure no surprises down the road.
We feel it is important at John the Plumber Ottawa to show our customers what some of the pipes that run in your house look like – we feel it gives a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes. It also gives people a healthy understanding of how things can back up or get clogged when things go down the drain that are not supposed to. With so many twists and turns it is easy to see how drain pipes can get clogged or blocked with improper use.
