Dish Soap
Dishwashing soap can be your best friend. Because soap dissolves grease and build up on your dishes, it is true that it will do the same thing in your toilet. If you can get your hands on a cup of liquid soap and a few cups of hot water you’re in business. Let it sit for 15 minutes and flush the toilet. Bleach is also a great option if dishwashing soap is not available.
Toilet Clog Volcano
Remember that amazing volcano you made in science class in grade 4? Well the same chemical reaction can be used to unblock toilets! Sneak into the kitchen and grab some baking soda and vinegar, pour a cup of baking soda into the bowl and slosh the white vinegar over the baking soda and watch the reaction! Wait about 15 minutes, throw some hot water down there and wait a few minutes more. Flush once. This is a great for stubborn blocks.
NOTE – Definitely don’t use this if you have already tried bleach as the two chemicals do not get along well and create a nasty gas that can make you sick!
Is that Kingston toilet still blocked? You may need to get a wire coat hanger. Straighten it out as much as possible, don some rubber gloves if you’re squeamish and wrap a rag at the end of the coat hanger so you do not damage the bowl. This is the quickest makeshift toilet snake you can use and can we get rid of even the worst blocks in an emergency.
