Many will tell you that pouring corrosive drain cleaners down your pipes to break your clog is the way to go. We are here to tell you that is something you should NEVER do. Our Company does not consider drain cleaner to be an option ever. Over time those chemicals will break down the porcelain and then you will need to replace your toilet.

We also caution you on using a snake right away. Sometimes a block is so congested that a snake or a hand auger will only make a small hole in the blockage and/or push the blockage further down into your pipes. Our licensed and knowledgeable plumbers recommend an innovative service to help your cause called ‘Hydro Jetting’, so today we thought we’d blog for you a bit about this procedure and how it works.

What is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro Jetting is a high powered water stream that is fed into your drain line. The pressured water pumps into your system and breaks up any blockages and build up in your pipes. It is a very quick and efficient tool and has proven to be highly effective in cleaning out grease, as well as any other general muck that may have built up inside the walls of your pipes.

Hydro Jetting Process

Before one of our plumbers begins the Hydro Jetting process, they will observe and assess the pipe as it is by using a camera. They do this so the power of the water jets do not cause new damage, or worsen any existing damage. Our plumbers will also take a peek with the camera again afterwards to see how successful the Hydro Jetting was, and to ensure that your drains will now begin running again at optimal levels.

Immediate Results

Having a Hydro Jet Procedure done will produce immediate results. You will note that your sinks and tubs suddenly drain much faster, not to mention any unwanted odors that were part of the blockage will disappear as well. Afterwards, it is a good idea to consider having the Hydro Jet procedure done on a continual basis.

Doing so will aid in avoiding these types of blockages in the future, and the cameras will provide you with a true picture of what is lurking in your Hamilton home’s pipes and the condition they are in.

Only thing we need to caution you about is one possible source of a blockage, and that is if your pipes have been compromised by tree roots, hydro jets will not work efficiently to begin with. If that is the case the tree roots will need to be broken down by an auger first and then a hydro jet can be used to clean out the remainder of muck in your pipes.
