Summer Plumbing Tips From John The Plumber
John the plumber Hamilton here with some more summer plumbing tips that we want to offer our customers. We’ve already written a blog about some of the more common summer plumbing issues you may encounter. Here are some other tips and tricks from the pros. Think of this as proven preventive maintenance!
Minor Plumbing Issues
Spring and the summer is a great time to look for any minor plumbing issues that might be lurking around your house. Grab a flashlight and look inside every vanity and under the kitchen sink. Look for any moisture leaks from the drains or from the shut offs themselves. Visually look and try out all the taps and look for water that should not be there, as well as the seal. Head down to the basement and go look at the shut offs for the outdoor hose bibs as well as the main water meter and washing machines.
Bathroom Plumbing and More
Take a look at your outdoor hoses and sprinkler systems outside. Shower heads, faucets and any other plumbing will always benefit from a visual inspection by you, the homeowner, to look out for any issues that you may have. While you are in the bathrooms checking out your taps, take a look at your showers and baths. Make sure the caulking is not peeling away and there is no mold or water leakage anywhere around these fixtures. Take a look up on the ceiling and make sure there are no water leaks coming from above either.
Don’t Forget the Toilet
Don’t forget to check the toilet for any cracks or leaks inside and out, as well as the seal on the base. Toilets should stay where they are when in use and not rock or shift. Toilets get a lot more use in the summer when more folks are home and have guests staying in Hamilton, and you definitely want to ensure they are in optimal shape.
Hot Water Tanks
Hot water tanks have a 10 to 15 year lifespan. Always give them a visual inspection every 6 months to see if there are any issues that you can see. Look for rust, water drops, leakage from underneath, and ensure that they are working well and warming up quickly.
Check Your Sump Pump Too!
Summer in Hamilton is a great time to check your sump pumps. Ensure they are working well and that you have a battery back up on standby in case the power goes out with one of our violent Hamilton summer storms.
