Hamilton Blocked Drains and Drain Cleaning Services
A blocked or clogged drain is an unfortunate thing to have happen, but don’t fret – that’s why we’re here!
When a blocked drain happens, quite commonly people resort to heavy and harsh chemicals to pour down the drains. This is never a good idea as quite often it does not work on a permanent scale and leaves a negative environmental footprint, and this is something John the Plumber likes to avoid where possible!
Some smaller blocked drains or drain clogs are fairly straight forward and easy to fix for the handy person or DIY’er.
We’ve provided below a home remedy you can try at home, we always prefer natural and healthy methods so feel free to give this a try!
While your sink is dry, pour 1 cup of baking soda down the drain.
Pour 2 cups of boiling water down the drain and wait a few minutes.
Add another cup of baking soda and then immediately go over it with one cup of plain white vinegar.
Get yourself a good drain plug, and plug her up!
Let the chemical reaction do its thing, and once the bubbling stops/disappears, add another 2 cups of boiling water.
If you continue to have issues, you should not hesitate to contact us for drain cleaning services!
Be careful what you flush down your toilet too!
We often see businesses and restaurants alike with signs indicating that toilets are for solid waste and toilet paper only.
Do not flush feminine products, baby wipes (yes, even the ones that said are flushable!), dental floss, and more. Please use the trash can!
We extend safe practices of keeping our water clean… and when toilets use several litres of water with every flush, we want to preserve that as much as possible.
There are a number of online tutorials for the avid handyman to properly tackle blocked drains and pipes, but they can appear intimidating and time consuming to many others.
Here at John the Plumber, we understand many people like to try to attempt things themselves which is why we offer suggestions and best practices.
We do advise though that if you do not feel comfortable in doing it yourself give us a call!
More Blocked Drain Information
It’s very easy to unintentionally block a drain, some people run oil or grease down the drain without much thought, and even things like coconut oil is bad for our drains because it hardens when it cools. Many starch products are bad for the pipes, chunks of anything or food that takes a while to decompose is difficult for drains to handle, and can easily cause a drain clog. It’s best to have a good drain plug and dispose the most you can into your compost. Anything that does end up down the drain should be chased by cold water to help push them.
