Outdoor Hose Bib Installation
Check Your Outdoor Tap
When summer is on it’s way we run to fill up our pools and turn on our sprinkler sets and splash pads. But there’s one wee but rather large detail you need to pay attention to first Kingston – and that would be turning your outdoor tap back on!
How to Check Your Outdoor Tap
If you are unsure as to where and what your outdoor tap is, it’s the metal tap-like thingy that is seen sticking out of your home’s wall outside and/or in your garage. You or someone else in your home would have closed them before winter arrived (we hope!), and now it’s time to do the reverse and open them back up to use them. This is definitely a DIY project, no need to call us to come visit for this. However if it’s your first time you may not be clear on what to do and in what order, so listed the steps below so you don’t wind up with an indoor flood on your hands.
How To Turn On Your Outdoor Tap
Turn the outside knob all the way to the right to ensure your water supply is off to begin with.
Your basement is where your main water valve is located (FYI: sometimes you will find it in a crawlspace). The main valve is connected to the secondary pipes in your home, and that includes the ones that leading outside.
Turn all the valves that are associated with outdoor taps on by turning them to the left.
Low Water Pressure Coming From Your Outdoor Tap?
Should you happen to notice your water pressure isn’t as strong as it should be, there is a good chance that you may have developed a leak somewhere within your pipelines. If low pressure is what you have observed, you need to go back inside and follow the pipe from the main valve forward until your find the leak.
Leaks aren’t a daily thing but they will occur for a number of reasons and need to be repaired as soon as possible in order to avoid water damage from indoor flooding – not to mention an expensive water bill.
If you’ve taken these steps, yet aren’t getting good water pressure and there’s no leak in sight, you then may well have a bigger plumbing issue brewing.
