If you happen to be one of those unlucky people in Kanata that have a low flush and/or dual flush toilet in your home you probably think about replacing it every second week. If you have an older one, you probably consider the cost to replace it on a daily basis!
Low flush toilets are absolutely fantastic when they work correctly but often they do not. They require multiple, high volume flushings which essentially render them useless as a water saving device; their appeal plummets as you are flushing more frequently therefore using more water and money.
Not all is lost, though!
Here at John the plumber Kanata we can help you out with that stubborn low flush toilet. Low-flush toilets are named because they are exactly that: low-flow and low pressure. Dual flush options essentially do the same as far as water saving, but they have a high volume option. Unfortunately, the high volume option usually has low pressure, rendering it clog worthy on a regular basis. or is another name for these.
To be frank, if you use more than the typical three squares of toilet paper on the low flow setting, there is a great chance that your toilet is going to block soon because there is just not enough water pressure and water volume to move things correctly. If you have young kids in the house, this can be amplified!
An Easy Maintenance Tip
Plunging the toilet on a regular basis, even when they are not blocked. Weekly maintenance plunging prevents build up in the U bend and can really prevent issues coming from later. Of course, if your toilet clogs and all the plunging in the world is not unblocking your toilet and it is starting to fill up, make sure you get the water shut off and call John the Plumber Kanata!
Think of your low flush toilet as very sensitive
You really need to baby this toilet system. Using a one-ply toilet paper that is not as water absorbent is also a great option to prevent blockages from happening. Of course, you never want to flush anything down the drain that shouldn’t. Hard water can also be an issue. Making sure that your water is soft will prevent any mineral buildup on the pipes as well.
