WHY ARE YOUR TOILETS SO NOISY?
We sure do get a lot of calls from you about your noisy, noisy toilets Mississauga! We’re glad that you called though; not everyone is aware that noise coming from a toilet is an indicator that something is wrong within the plumbing of your toilet and needs to be looked at. To ignore the noise is basically ignoring money flying out of your wallet because the longer the wait the more expensive the problem you are already experiencing can become.
Many a homeowner has been aggravated by a noisy toilet keeping them awake at night, not to mention astounded by their water bill tripling within one month from it constantly running! Here at John THE Plumber Mississauga we care to know that you sleep in peace and aren’t spending any more money than you need to, so we decided to share some basic toilet test scenarios and plumbing links so that you can assess what is happening on your own before calling in a professional – you’d be surprised how minor it can be!
Scenario One: Calcium Build Up
If this is the situation it is a matter of cleaning your pipes, not repairing them. Calcium build up is the direct result of hard water; this issue will be mostly noted in the outside areas of Mississauga and further on into country areas as opposed to right downtown. This problem comes with a “whoosh” sound when the toilet is filling up, and then it stops when the toilet tank is full. All you need to do here is clean your pipes with a mineral and calcium deposit cleaning agent and the noise will be gone, along with dirty films hard water leaves on everything.
Scenario Two: A Leaking Valve
This issue presents with a whistling sound; if this is what you hear it most likely means that you have a valve that is slowing leaking. Test this theory by trying to adjust the fill valve and if the whistling noise stops, you’ve fixed it already! Of course if that doesn’t work you most likely will need to repair or even replace the valve.
Scenario Three: Fill Valves
This scenario comes with two different types of sounds:
- If you flush and note a vibrating sound in the wall
- If you hear a running sound due to water actually running
These noises occur when the diaphragm gasket inside your fill valve has lost its elasticity, hardened and is basically worn down. Test the vibration issue by removing the toilet tank lid and gently lift the float arm. If the noise stops then you know the fill valve needs to be replaced. Test the water running issue by adjusting the float to a lower level inside the toilet tank, and see if it shuts off when flushed again or not. If it is in fact your fill valve that needs to be replaced, adjusting won’t solve the problem – but it’s definitely worth a try, these small things may be all you need to do!
