Our Drain Cleaning Services in Toronto
Not all clogged drains are the same. How a drain cleaner fixes a blocked kitchen sink can differ significantly from how they clear a clogged bathroom sink or laundry sink. Moreover, clogged toilet service can vastly differ from the techniques used to clear a plumbing stack or sewer line.
The good news: We do it all. No matter what drain is blocked and what residential drain service you need, we can help. We’re equipped to handle all your drain issues, big or small!
Toilets are designed to handle two things: organic human waste and toilet paper. Tissue paper, napkins, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, condoms, Q-tips, wrappers, garbage, food waste, and anything else that isn’t organic human waste or toilet paper can clog your toilet.
Even if your toilet has appeared to work correctly, you could have something lodged in the toilet S-trap or somewhere in the drain. Eventually, the flushed matter will begin clinging to the insides of the pipe, and anything lodged will cause a clogged toilet or a blocked toilet drain.
You may notice a weak flush, needing multiple flushes to clean the toilet, flushed waste rising from another drain, or any other problems.
We can usually clear a blocked toilet with a commercial toilet auger; however, sometimes, we may need to remove the toilet as you may have a clogged toilet drain or stack.
If that’s the case, we may need to use a large electric drum auger, a hydro jetter, a drain camera, or one of the many other tools in our drain cleaning arsenal.
Whatever the case, John The Plumber has got you covered, and we can clear your clogged toilet in no time.
Don’t be embarrassed! We’ve seen it all!
A combination of beard trimmings, brushed hair, toothpaste, soap, and other bathroom products can amass into quite the drain blockage.
The bathroom sink blockage is often caught in the popup stopper, but it can make it further down the line and may even affect the other fixtures in your bathroom.
Like kitchen sink blockages, we offer professional snaking services and a Hydro Jetter power scrub that will blast out all of the matter accumulated in the drain pipe over the years.
There are a few reasons why floor drains become clogged. It can be related to objects that went down other drains, issues with the sewer, or matter that drained through the floor drain itself.
Floor drain pipes are larger than many other pipes in your home. We usually use larger drain cleaning machines for these pipes to effectively remove the blockage and prevent future issues.
While clearing your blocked floor drain, we usually use the opportunity to get a drain camera to see the conditions of the pipe. Many blockages are isolated incidents, but a serious repair may sometimes be required.
Whatever the case, we’ll be able to provide you with the information you need to make an educated decision!
There can be many reasons why multiple drains in your home are clogged. It could be a problem with the sewer line, a blocked drain pipe, or an accumulation of matter in the drains.
The indicator that multiple drains are affected by a blockage is if using one drain causes a backup in another drain. This usually means a blockage in the plumbing stack connected to all the affected drains.
We have the experience and equipment at John The Plumber to clear any blockage and get your drains running smoothly again!
A blockage in your sewer line usually causes a sewage backup. As you flush the toilet or use the shower, the water and waste will rise from the lowest drain in your home, which is usually your basement floor drain.
Sewage backups can also occur when there’s an issue with the public sewer system. We’d encourage you to consider adding a backwater valve to avoid public sewage backups.
Backwater Valves prevent sewage and water from back flowing into your home.
A Hydro Jetter is a drain cleaning machine that uses high-pressure water to destroy drain blockages and scrub the plumbing system. Think of it as a pressure washer for your plumbing!
There are many types of Hydro Jetters that each serve a different purpose. A hydro jetter used for large commercial pipes is too powerful for smaller residential lines and can cause damage.
At John The Plumber, we’re equipped with various Hydro Jetters to offer hydro jetting services for any drain pipes in your home. No matter the drain or sewer blockage, we are prepared to blast it away!
Drain clogs and sewer blockages are a plumbing emergency. Some plumbers may not think it’s a serious plumbing emergency, but we do!
When you need emergency drain cleaning services, you’ve come to the right place!
John The Plumber is the emergency drain cleaner Toronto calls when they need fast service and good service!

Pouring a little grease down the kitchen sink drain may seem innocent enough, right?
Unfortunately, pouring grease down the drain is asking for clogged drains in your kitchen sink!
Grease and fat is the worst offender when it comes to blocked kitchen drains. When the grease is hot, it’s a liquid, but it doesn’t take much cooling before it begins to congeal, harden, and stick. As the grease and fat travel through your cool drain pipes, the grease will stick and start layering the insides of your drain pipes.
What makes it worse is other matter that goes down the drain will stick to this grease buildup. So, a little bit of grease will become a mass of food bits, fat, fibres, and other gunk that goes down the kitchen sink drain.
It’s common for kitchen sink drain pipes to become completely solid with brown grease and food accumulations. This can stink, become a breeding ground for drain flies, affect other drains, and more.
Some plumbers will use their equipment to poke a hole through the kitchen sink clog and be done with it. But, poking a hole through it won’t remove the blockage, and it won’t take long before the problem returns.
At John The Plumber, we run our equipment back and forth several times to break up the blockages and flush them down the drain. Additionally, we arrive equipped with a Mini Hydro Jetter designed to clear the drain pipes connected to sink drains. It’s gentle to the small drain pipes but strong enough to blast away years of accumulated gunk. It’s optional, but we recommend it because it can prevent future problems and recurring kitchen drain blockages.
We lose a lot of hair when we shampoo! As this hair washes down the shower drain, it can stick to the soap and other gunk in the pipes and cause a blocked shower drain or clogged bathtub!
Due to the configuration of the drain and strainer, some tubs and shower drains can be challenging for homeowners to fix themselves.
But don’t worry! We can clear almost any blocked shower through the overflow to avoid cutting into ceilings or walls. At John The Plumber, we’ll do everything possible to prevent unnecessary damage to your home!
Literally, all the drain pipes in your home connect to your sewer main. As a result, all the sludge and goop that cause problems in other drain pipes can also cause a clogged sewer line.
On top of that, your sewer main also faces tree roots, the risk of shifting earth, sink holes, and more. This can lead to a cracked sewer, collapsed sewer, and other problems.
The first move is to clear the blockage so we can empty the sewer and drain any collected water. Once the water has drained, it’s wise to run a sewer camera inspection to see if any issues caused the drain.
From there, we can see if this blockage was due to objects causing a blocked sewer or if a repair is required.
In addition to sewer rooting, John The Plumber has large Hydro Jet Drain Cleaners designed to clean large pipes such as sewer lines.
Whatever the sewer issue, John The Plumber is prepared to help you every step of the way!
A drain backup happens when one or more of your home’s drains become clogged, which causes water and sewage to back up into your sink, shower, tub, or toilet. It can be a serious and disgusting problem that requires the help of a professional plumber to clear.
As soon as you notice a drain backup, advise the other household members to stop using the plumbing! Otherwise, you’ll have a bigger mess to clean.
When you notice a backed-up drain, call a fast and friendly drain cleaning company like John The Plumber!
A backwater valve is a device installed in your plumbing system that prevents water and sewage from rising into your home from the sewer. A backwater valve turns your drain system into a one-way street, so you don’t have to worry about your neighbours sewage coming into your home!
Backwater valves should be inspected annually to ensure that it works and there are no issues to be concerned about. If it’s been a while since you’ve had a backwater valve inspection, call John The Plumber for a backwater valve maintenance inspection!
Most of us love to see big, strong trees on our property.
Unfortunately, these beautiful plants have a downside: they’re hungry!
The root system of a tree will grow out, reaching further and further for a source of nutrition. And these roots can be very invasive and destructive.
A tiny crack in your sewer may not leak much, but it is often enough to draw the attention of a tree. Once the root system tastes your delicious sewage and waste, it will be hooked.
You’ve never seen addiction like a tree that has suckled from your sewer line. At first, the roots will gently caress the sewer. But before long, the tree roots are forcing themselves into your sewer line, pushing on the cracks and causing additional damage.
That peaceful tree swaying in the wind isn’t as peaceful as you think!
When this happens, we can usually use a Chain Knocker tool to clear out the roots from the system. When this tool is inserted into the sewer and activated, chains at the tip spin very fast. These chains can tear up tree roots in no time!
Additionally, we have Hydro Jetter machines that can blast the tree roots away with high-pressure water.
But, the truth is, eventually the tree roots will return. It may take years, but they will return. The best long-term solution is to replace the sewer altogether.

What Do People Say About Our Drain Cleaning in Toronto Area?
Couldn’t be happier with John The Plumber. Michael came to the rescue, he arrived on time and did a fantastic job. If I ever need a plumber again, I’ll be calling John The Plumber. Michael repaired a very clogged kitchen sink drain and replaced a rusted out kitchen sink strainer. A++++
I contacted the company to get someone to snake my sewer drain. The cost was comparable to what another plumbing company charged me on a previous occasion for the same job. Rob was very professional, arrived on time and was helpful explaining some of the potential issues to watch for and reducing future problems. I would contact them again for plumbing needs based on this experience.
Great service, clean work and well mannered plumber. I recently had issues with a blocked drain line which John the plumber came out and cleared. I was also able to book them for the same day so we were up and running right away! As far as GTA prices go they were good and fair. Will use again. Thanks!
My wife and I had a clogged sink. Mike came and did a drain cleaning. He was very polite, he wore a mask, and was very quick. The job was done in no time. I didn’t have to wait long at all. He had some good suggestions on how to avoid drain blockages in the future. I’m satisfied with the service and I will likely use them again in the future
