Have You Turned On Your Outdoor Water Faucet?
Spring & Summer is the time of year where everyone is heading to their backyards for all kinds of relaxation and fun. But first a little bit of tending to your yard needs to happen, specifically the turning on of your outdoor water taps. Outdoor water faucets are called a few things from taps to hose bibs to spigots to that thingy outside. The names all refer to the metal tap sticking out of the wall of your home (and sometimes there’s one in the garage as well!). This is definitely something you don’t require a professional plumber for, just a bit of know how – keep on reading and you’ll know as well as we do!

Is Your Water Off?
Much as you want to turn the water on here, you need to make sure your outdoor water taps are off to begin with. Go to any and all outdoor taps and turn the knob as far as you can to the right, ensuring it is off before you go any further.
Turn The Water On Inside
Head to your basement and find your main water valve. That valve isn’t only the point of entry for all water to enter your home. It’s also connected to all secondary pipes that direct water to the various taps on your property including the outdoors. Find the pipes that are attached to your outside taps and turn them on/to the left.
Now it’s time to turn on your outdoor water taps; go back outside and turn the knobs to the left.
Pressure Check Your Outdoor Water
If you have been successful so far but notice that you aren’t getting a lot of water pressure outside, chances are you may have sprung a leak somewhere over the winter months. If that’s the case, turn the outdoor water off and go look around at the pipes leading from your basement. You may find water dripping along the way – there’s your leak!
