Mississauga Plumbing, Easy Tips & Tricks to help fix some of the Most Common Plumbing Problems

It’s bad enough facing a leak in the drain during the weekend. That’s supposed to be your rejuvenation Sunday! But hey, life is full of loose screws and you’ve got to learn to deal with them. Sometimes the smallest problem can feel like an impossibility, but that’s only until you find a hack for it! Here are the 3 most common plumbing problems that you’re probably going to encounter at some point in your life. Don’t worry, the fixer uppers are right there to help you clear the mess yourself! If not, ring up Mississauga plumbing company John The Plumber, and they’ll help you out.

1. Clogged toilet

A blocked toilet is an inconvenience right down to the core (like, literally). Especially if you only have one bathroom. Follow the step by step advice and your toilet should start flushing in no time!

  • Try a plunger Everyone has at least one plunger lying around the house. Wear gloves as things may get messy. Your first plunge should be a soft one. There is air in the bell and if you plunge hard on the first try it may push back the air and out comes the water with a splash! Make sure the seal between the plunger and the toilet drain is maintained. You often have to plunge multiple times until the clog clears. This should do the trick, but in case it doesn’t try the next step.
  • Try using a plumbing snake. A plumbing snake is a long flexible wire with a screw like tip. You keep inserting it in the drain until it meets the clog. Once you feel resistance, start turning the snake so it engages itself with whatever it is that’s blocking the drain. Either the debris will loosen up or hook to the screw for you to pull out. If things don’t go as expected, try the next step.
  • The last resort is to remove and pull out the toilet. It’s hard work but if you’re feeling ambitious only dismantle one side of the toilet first. You’ll probably get the blockage. If complete dismantlement is required your best bet is to call the Mississauga plumbers for quicker repair.

2. Low water pressure

Everyone hates low water pressure especially in the shower, especially after a long, hard day. This problem usually results from partial blockage of the pipes or corrosion of the pipes. Here’s what you should do.

  • Go to your local hardware store and purchase a cheap shower head. When you look inside the head, you’ll see a washer which constricts the water flow. Increase the hole size with a drill and insert it in your shower. If the pipes aren’t blocked, this works like magic!
  • Sometimes changing or cleaning the faucet aerator is all you need to do. You can unscrew the tip of the faucet and replace or clean out the aerator with something thin and pointy. Voila!

3. Garbage disposal problems

Garbage disposal glitches are such a pain! The only way to go about this is to go by the book. “Prevention is better than cure”. The best way is to avoid this is by proper maintenance. All you have to do is run cold water though them every other day! Stay clean, literally!
