If there is one call we get that outnumbers all others, it’s blocked drains. Tubs, sinks, toilets and laundry tubs are all susceptible to becoming blocked or clogged. Worse still, your main drain from your home out to the city property line can get blocked for any number of reasons; this is the one we are going to focus on today.
Main line sewer blocks are not fun. A sewer line backing up in your house can become a health and safety issue very quickly. Sewage coming out of a floor drain or backing up into a bathtub or toilet is unpleasant at best and can rapidly become a horrible mess. Tree roots, gravel, dirt and debris can cause cast iron pipes under the ground to crumble and become frail over time. Flushing things down the toilet which are not supposed to go down can also cause issues.
When we get a call here at John the plumber Mississauga for a main line block, we recommend to always have a camera inspection done so the customer and the plumber can see what the issues are – video footage can show you any issue the sewer line has, blockages, slope and if they are weak or deteriorated in areas, and at exactly how many feet down the line these problem areas are. Hopefully your house will have a clean out, which is a 3 or 4 inch diameter pipe sticking up from the ground, usually in the basement as we live in a cold climate here in Mississauga. The clean out is used to access the main line easily and efficiently, and if you do not have one in your home you should consider having one installed by John the Plumber.
Mini rooters can snake down the line and be fitted with special heads that can clear blockages. They can cut up tree roots, remove loose objects and even scrape the walls of the pipe to clear them out. Mini rooters can either push blockages through the pipe or pull them up. They are great when used correctly and clear out the blockage in no time.
